NakshVed is a Vedic astrology app (kundli, panchang, matching, tools and bhakti content) and this website. This page explains what information the app uses, where it goes, and what you can do about it. There is no account or sign-in: you do not give us a name, email address or phone number to use the app.
What stays on your phone
- The profiles you save (name, birth date, time and place), your active profile, and your settings (language, theme, calculation choices).
- Your saved (favourite) Bhakti items, and a copy of the last Bhakti content and app notices the server sent, so the app still opens without internet.
- Small counters that decide when to show an update or rating reminder.
This is kept in the app's private storage on your device. We do not receive it. Removing a profile deletes it from the device, and uninstalling the app removes everything the app stored.
What the app sends to our server
The app has no calculation of its own, so each screen asks our server for its result. Depending on what you open, the request contains:
- For your chart, dasha, readings, matching, numerology and baby names: the birth date, time, place (coordinates and time zone) and, where a feature needs it, a name. Matching sends the details of both people.
- For the printable kundli PDF: the above, plus the name and place text you typed, so they can be printed on the report.
- For place search and panchang, calendar and festival screens: the text you search for, and the coordinates of the place you chose.
- If you tap “use my location”: your approximate location (the app asks permission first) is sent once so the server can name the place and its time zone. It is not kept, and the app does not track your location in the background.
- With every request, the technical details any app sends: your IP address, the app version and platform (Android or iOS), and the language you chose.
The server calculates the answer and returns it. It does not store your birth details or reports in a database, and it does not write request bodies, which contain birth details, to its logs.
Server logs
To keep the service secure and to fix faults, the web server and the application record the time of each request, the address requested (this can include search text and the coordinates of a chosen place), the result code and your IP address. When something goes wrong the application also records an error report with a request number. These logs are kept for a limited period and are used only for security, abuse prevention and troubleshooting. We use your IP address to limit how many requests one address can make.
Advertising
The Android app contains Google AdMob. Ads are switched on or off from our server, and rewarded video ads may be offered before some features, such as downloading a full report. When ads are on, Google and its partners may use the advertising ID of your device and other device information to show and measure ads, under Google's advertising policies. You can reset your advertising ID or opt out of personalised ads in your Android settings. We do not sell your information, and we do not send your birth details to advertisers.
Usage statistics, crash reports and notifications
The app uses Google Firebase for three things:
- Usage statistics (Firebase Analytics). The app records which screens are opened and a few events, such as whether a rewarded video was watched. These records come with a random app-instance identifier and basic device details (device model, operating system, app version, language, approximate region from the IP address). They do not include your name or birth details.
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics). If the app crashes, a report with the technical error, the app version and device details is sent so we can fix it. It does not include your profiles or birth details.
- Notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging). The app asks, with your permission, to send you occasional notifications about festivals, auspicious days and new features. Your device is subscribed to one general topic, so every user receives the same message; nothing is tied to your name or profile. You can refuse the permission, or switch notifications off at any time in your phone's settings, and the rest of the app works the same.
This data is processed by Google under Firebase's privacy information and is used only to understand how the app is used, to fix faults and to deliver the notifications you allowed.
Other services
- The Android app uses Google Play services (including Google Play In-App Review) and the iOS app uses Apple's StoreKit to show the rating sheet. Those systems are run by Google and Apple under their own privacy policies; we are not told whether you rated.
- Place names for search come from GeoNames data (CC BY 4.0) bundled with our server.
- This website sets no cookies for visitors and uses no analytics or advertising trackers. It asks our server only for the store links shown on the page.
Who can see your information
We do not sell or rent your information or share it for marketing. It is handled by us and the infrastructure that runs the service. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the service and its users from abuse.
Security
The app talks to our server over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your device protected and avoid saving profiles on a device you share.
Your choices and rights
- Delete any profile in the app at any time, or uninstall the app to remove everything stored on the device.
- Do not use “use my location” if you prefer: you can always search for your place by name instead, and you can withdraw the location permission in your phone's settings.
- Control advertising through your device's advertising ID settings.
- Turn notifications off in your phone's settings whenever you like. Usage statistics and crash reports are limited to the technical data described above, and uninstalling the app stops them.
- Because the server keeps no profile of you, there is normally nothing to access or correct there. If you believe we hold information about you, or have a privacy question or complaint, write to us and we will respond. You have these rights under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, to the extent it applies.
Children
NakshVed is meant for adults. If you are under 18, please use it with a parent or guardian. If you think a child has sent us information, contact us and we will remove what we can.
Nature of the content
Readings are cultural and entertainment content describing traditional themes. They are not predictions of events or professional advice. See the terms of use.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, for example when paid features or accounts are introduced, we will update this page and its date, and ask for your consent again where the law requires it.
